Mommies Work was born from heartfelt
— and often heartbreaking —
attempts to explain to my young children where I spend my days.

My kids asked many questions about my daily departures, and I sought a way to teach these tiny souls about what I did all day, while also trying to justify my absence. Mommies Work quickly evolved into equal parts education and validation.

Working moms know the sting of missed moments at home. The self-doubt that swells from watching moms enjoy weekday outings with their children. And the guilt that settles in after a call from day care, a late night at the office or a missed milestone due to travel. But they also know the satisfaction of being a part of something bigger. Of flexing their creative muscles. Of contributing to a team of peers. And of killing it at a business presentation.

And perhaps above all, they know the pride that drives us as role models for our girls to follow their dreams. And as examples for our boys to one day support wives following theirs. Like me, many know they’re actually better moms because of their careers.

Mommies Work speaks to the littlest ones, reminding us that while many moms love their jobs, home is where their heart is.

“This is a MUST BUY for every working mom who feels the inevitable guilt of missing time at home when pursuing our careers. The book inspires new conversations with my son every time we read it and makes me feel that I am not alone in the struggle of work/life balance.  Mommies Work helps your child understand it IS a balancing act, but nothing is more important than our titles as mothers.  Kristin, thank you for writing this book!”

Lynn Smith, National Media Expert; TODAY show, NBC News, MSNBC and CNN Headline News

“As a working mom, I so wish I had this book when my girls were little!  It beautifully illustrates the delicate balancing act we face each and every day. It’s important we show our children that it IS possible to have your career and family flourish simultaneously! Kristin, herself, is a shining example of someone who followed her passion and dreams.. while still prioritizing her most important job: mommy!”
